Express Entry Will Pause for Up to Two Weeks on November 3: What Candidates Should Do Now

IRCCGUIDE · 16 10 月, 2026 · 3 min read

Express Entry invitation rounds will pause temporarily when Canada’s new CRS rules take effect on November 3, 2026. IRCC says it must recalculate points in existing profiles after introducing the new Labour Market Integration factor, a process that may take up to two weeks.

For candidates waiting for an invitation, the important point is timing: the pause is part of a system recalculation, not a refusal and not an instruction to create a new profile. Once the recalculation is complete, IRCC says it will restart invitation rounds.

Why the pool is being recalculated

From November 3, eligible Canadian work experience and qualifying job offers in high-wage occupations will be assessed under a new CRS factor. Candidates can receive points based on either Canadian work experience—with additional points for eligible high-wage occupations—or a qualifying high-wage job offer. The two results do not stack; IRCC awards whichever is higher.

The factor can be worth up to 150 CRS points for a candidate without an accompanying spouse or common-law partner, or up to 140 points for a candidate with one. Those maximums are not available to every candidate: they depend on work length and, where applicable, qualifying high-wage occupation experience.

What candidates should do before November 3

  1. Review your NOC code. Your duties—not only your job title—must match the NOC used in your profile.
  2. Check Canadian work-history dates and hours. The new points do not change the underlying requirements for qualifying Canadian experience.
  3. Verify job-offer information. IRCC advises candidates who may qualify for job-offer points to make sure their profile contains complete and accurate information before the rule change.
  4. Do not duplicate your profile. Existing profiles will be recalculated by IRCC; a duplicate profile can create problems rather than accelerate the process.
  5. Keep language tests and passports valid. A higher CRS score does not preserve eligibility if a required document expires.

What not to assume

A pause in draws does not mean the pool is closed permanently, and new points do not guarantee an invitation. Future cut-offs will still depend on the type of round, the number of invitations and the scores of eligible candidates. Nor does the policy make every job offer valuable for CRS purposes: job-offer points under the new factor are limited to eligible high-wage occupations, and officers will continue to assess whether offers are genuine.

The practical message is straightforward: use the short window before November 3 to correct incomplete or outdated profile information, then expect a temporary lull while IRCC resets the rankings.
